The Japan Machine Tool Builders’ Association and Tokyo Big Sight Inc. held JIMTOF2016 (The 28th Japan International Machine Tool Fair) over six days from Thursday, November 17 to Tuesday, November 22, 2016, based on the theme, “The future starts here.”
Since the fair was held for the first time in 1962, JIMTOF has won high appraisal, both domestically and internationally, as a machine tool fair representing Japan, and now the event marks the 28th time for this fair to be held. This is all thanks to the cooperation and support of not only the exhibitors, visitors and cooperating organizations, but also all the people associated with the manufacturing industry. The New East Exhibition Hall was added as the venue for JIMTOF2016, and the event was held on an unprecedented scale. As a result, it attracted a total of 969 companies from 21 countries and regions throughout the world, with 5,518 booths set up. As many as 483 booths were set up by 143 companies from overseas, marking a 60% increase over the previous event.
The fair was visited by a total of 147,602 people (excluding repeat visitors), of whom as many as 11,533 were from overseas. Both of these figures marked a major increase over the previous event, and it was also a record number since the current method of counting visitors based on a registration system was introduced. In addition to the comprehensive variety of displays set up at the venue by exhibitors, a program was run offering a diverse range of talks, seminars and projects to introduce machine tools and their respective industries to students, in the fields of AI, IoT, etc., which are currently hot topics. Moreover, a special exhibit was set up to focus attention on the skills of craftsmen and manufacturing techniques that Japan boasts to the world. The demonstration of metal spinning, in which participants were able to gain hands-on experience of working with master craftsmen, attracted the attention of many people every time, greatly exciting visitors to the event.
The next JIMTOF2018 (The 29th Japan International Machine Tool Fair) will be held at Tokyo Big Sight over six days from Thursday, November 1 to Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Moving forward, everyone at the Fair Management Office will continue striving through JIMTOF to contribute to the further development of machine tools and associated industries, and we sincerely look forward to everyone’s continued support.
